The Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids and What They Do

The following information on cannabinoids is not intended to treat, cure or diagnose any disease or health condition.  However, as you’ve probably learned, there are many people reporting very positive results.

So, what are cannabinoids? Simply put, they are naturally occurring compounds found in cannabis plants. They can also be found in other plants in nature, and our body even produces some types of endocannabinoids. In the cannabis plant, they are synthesized primarily during the flowering stage of the plants life in small structures called trichomes.

There are two types of cannabinoids. Endogenous cannabinoids are produced within our own body. Phytocannabinoids are produced within plants.

There is also two legal classifications for cannabis plants: marijuana and hemp. The compounds detailed below are found in varying degrees in the two plants. Sometimes they aren’t found at all, and other times they are plentiful.

cannabinoids present in cannabis. together they create an entourage effect

For instance, delta-9 THC, the compound famous for its health benefits as well as the psychoactive effects, is found at noticeably higher levels in marijuana than in hemp. As such, hemp and hemp extracts will not get one ‘high’, while generally most marijuana extracts will get someone ‘high’.

Here are the top 10 major cannabinoids naturally found in cannabis:

  • Cannabidiol (CBD)
  • Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDA)
  • Cannabidivarin (CBDV)
  • Cannabigerol (CBG)
  • Cannabigerolic Acid (CBGA)
  • Cannabichromene (CBC)
  • Cannabichromenic Acid (CBCA)
  • Cannabinol (CBN)
  • Delta 9 TetraHydroCannabinol (Delta9 THC)
  • Delta 9 TetraHydroCannabinolic Acid (Delta9 THCA)
  • TetraHydroCannabiVarin (THCV)

There are also dozens, leading into the hundreds, of minor cannabinoids that help create the entourage effect alongside many other natural chemical compounds produced by this complex plant known as cannabis. We will be maintaining an encompassing list of the cannabinoids below, and will update their respective blogs as we learn more about them.

Cannabinoids interact with many of the human body’s natural systems. One that seems to be specially made for cannabinoids, and is called the endocannabinoid system. This system is packed with what are called cannabinoid receptors. This system is responsible for many of our body functions, like pain perception, body temperature, immune cell strength and response, appetite regulation, stress response, energy balance and metabolism, sleep regulation, among many others.

Our body produces its own endogenous cannabinoids, like anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG).

We feel quite strongly that these various compounds can help many. Of course, the FDA requires that we say this is only our opinion, but of course, anyone watching the news learns of many reports of positive results from the use of these plants and their compounds. Also, please know that the health conditions listed above are only the most commonly reported health conditions affected by these compounds.

When selecting an effective Hemp Oil, most people find it most beneficial to buy CBD Oil that is a full spectrum CBD so that it will contain as many of these compounds as possible. Of course, THC and the other THC related compounds will naturally be low in all hemp products. Less than 0.3% by weight, to be specific. But, the other minor cannabinoids may be present at greater levels in full spectrum hemp products.

As you may have experienced, Cannabidiol or CBD is the compound that applies to more health boosting benefits than any other active compound to date. When the effects of cannabis and the hemp plant are experienced in its full capacity, more well rounded cannabinoid products seem to be recommended by many more with extremely positive results. The more cannabinoids, the greater the variety of activation of cannabinoid receptors, as well more antagonist activity.

Without further ado, here is our comprehensive list of cannabinoids:
